Finding the Peplink router with your Starlink Maritime setup.

Modified on Mon, 22 Jan at 12:59 PM

This overview arranges from a budget setup to a medium sized setup focused on only adding 2 Maritime versions of the Starlink and have as optional 4G/5G as a backup.

Keep in mind this is only advised on the available products at the time of writing.

The budget solution:

Without Cellular Minimum of 2 WAN ports:

Balance two: Balance Two Datasheet

- 2 WAN ports

- 1Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- And a 19" rack mount option: ACW-758.

Note the Balance Two SF throughput is not suitable for the speeds of Starlink incase you would like to use that later on. This setup is more designed for the loadbalancing features.

With Cellular Minimum 2 WAN ports:

Balance 20x + Virtual WAN license,  Balance 20x Datasheet

- 1 WAN + Virtual WAN

- 1x PSW-8-240W-RUG for VWAN and Starlink. Switch Datasheet

- 5G modem module if desired at a later stage.

- 1Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- No 19" Rack mounts available.

Note the Balance 20x SF throughput is not suitable for the speeds of Starlink incase you would like to use that later on. This setup is more designed for the loadbalancing features.

Middle solution:

Without Cellular Minimum of 2 WAN ports:

Balance 305: Balance 305 Datasheet

- 3 WAN ports

- 1Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- And a 19" rack mount option: ACW-382

Note the Balance 305 SF throughput is not suitable for the speeds of Starlink incase you would like to use that later on. This setup is more designed for the loadbalancing features.

With Cellular Minimum 2 WAN ports:

BR1 pro 5G/GLTE + virtual WAN license. BR1 Pro 5G & BR1 Pro GLTE Datasheets

- 1 WAN + Virtual WAN

- 1x PSW-8-240W-RUG for VWAN and Starlink. Switch Datasheet

- 1Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- No 19" Rack mounts available.

Note the Br1 pro 5G/GLTE has more SF throughput for SF hotfailover to 4G/5G. Using 2 Starlink terminals or Starlink with 4G/5G could be just enough Speed Fusion throughput or not enough when using unencrypted SF tunnel. Depending on the Starlink speed at that time if combined with the 4G/5G speed.

More expensive middle solution:

Without Cellular Minimum of 2 WAN ports:

Balance 380x, Balance 380x Datasheet

(Balance 380x is End of Life. Alternatives are: Balance 580x or Balance 310x with VWAN license)

- 3 WAN ports

- 3Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- And a 19" rack mount option: ACW-382

Note the balance 380x has enough Speed Fusion throughput to support 2x Starlink or Starlink + 5G up to 500Mbps.

With Cellular Minimum 2 WAN ports:

Balance 310x, Balance 310x Datasheet

- 2 WAN ports

- 2.5Gbps of routing throughput

- Load balancing features: Load Balancing Features Explained

- PoE enabled LAN ports for AP support.

- And a 19" rack mount option: ACW-513

Note the balance 310x has enough Speed Fusion throughput to support 2x Starlink or Starlink + 5G up to 500Mbps.
